I've been using back for about 7 or 8 years now and have never seen this. My materials at startup are very bright. I'm not sure if I hit something or what, but does anyone have a clue on how to get it back to normal. When I switch to VRay renderer and change to a VRay material per slot, it's fine, per slot. Check out the screen shot.

I had this same issue 1-2 weeks ago, but it's ok now. Im not sure what caused it, or how I solved it, but the only thing that comes to my mind is that few days ago I tried that dark ui but i didnt liked it so I switched it back to the default. Maybe that solved it. Give it a try...
[you can do that at customize->custom ui and defaults switcher ...but probably you knew that]

Man, I tried everything and I can't get this fixed. It's working fine on 2 other systems. I've uninstalled, reinstalled, reset all setting and everything else I could think of. This is annoying. I can't help if it just my video card acting weird. I can't seem to under under DirectX9 without view port glitches as I used to in the past. DirectX10 seems to work ok for now. The funny think is, this is how the materials look when you pull up Default Scanline Rendering, but this is what it look link if I boot with my default set to VRAY.
