I highly recommend everyone reads and starts getting excited about this. (if you havent already)

Apparently it will be 60% CG, 40% live action. Weta (Lord of the rings) is doing the animation and digital domain (benjamin button) are doing lighting and rendering. And its stereoscopic. should be very interesting.

reading it....about halfway through....very interesting so far.
where do you find raw scripts like this?
and in other sci-fi news, i read that warner-bros. has signed on for a Foundation trilogy....(Isaac Asimov)....those novels were awesome!

Yeah, James Cameron wrote that scriptment back in 1997 so its probably evolved quite a bit since, its due to come out around December.
Lets hope its good.

I got it from a friend who downloaded it some time ago but apparently Fox has pulled it off all the sites that were originally hosting it.

Mods, Feel free to pull down that rapid share link if you think its not cool or something.

finished reading it tyson....must say that even though the concepts and themes involved have been done before, this was quite simply breathtaking. i can't wait to see how it turns out, the depictions of purple forests and giant floating jellyfish!
i read the wikipedia article on how cameron's developed a new form of 3D camera-work (i'm not sure how it works), and has devoted months and years to planning the computer-generated parts.... and they're even developing a system whereby live-actors will be able to shoot with computer-generated co-actors.... meaning their responses, reactions etc will be authentic....
+ here's the clincher..... SIGOURNEY WEAVER!

I still havent had a chance to finish it completely myself but I'm enjoying it more than most novels Ive read recently. I have the pdf minimised under what I'm working on and I keep thinking "I should finish watching that" its got my head full of images. I'd kill to be working on it, imagine being asked to design one of those creatures, "the splincer, or the predator that looked like "it could devour a t-rex and have the Alien for dessert". I would so love to be a fly on the wall in a meeting with these guys james cameron, peter jackson spielberg etc.. talking about about all the new technology they are funding with their bottomless wallets. I'm betting this film will be something of a landmark for many visual effects standards to come. I'm a huge fan of james cameron despite his blockbuster approach to movies. I still feel that the original Ridley scott "Alien" was the best one but most people remember Aliens as the most entertaining. the more good quality scifi the better I say. I'll check out that asimov thing too. I've read alot of asimov in my time. I hope someone does one of his books some justice after the crock that was I robot.

that's exactly what i was thinking to myself...what if i had to design the Manticore? or the Splinth (?) whose head detaches from the body for the attack! and i love the whole different mechanism he's employed, wherein the whole planet/forest is literally "connected" not just figuratively...

the whole thing, it just made me think real hard about what we've done to Earth, and how we've managed to wreck and complicate our lives.... and that's saying something because i'm a real cynic, and usually laugh off any such environment-conscious messages.
coming back to what you said, yes, imagine sitting in a room with the same minds that brought you Aliens, LotR, Jurassic Park, Star Wars (lucas was also given a sneak preview of the patented 3d-camera tech.)! I've loved cameron's sci-fi work, and this looks very promising.

Alien was scary as hell, but Aliens was more of a thriller than a horror i think... I don't remember which one had the mother Alien and the eggs, but that was pretty cool! btw, i'm playing a game now called "Dead Space", and it's pretty good...reminds me a LOT of the Alien universe, and is not cheesy like those stupid AvP movies/games. This one is genuinely scary. Check it out.

Oh, and will have to get back to reading Foundation again, to prep myself for the movies! Have forgotten everything.

yep Aliens was the Cameron one, I'm a huge fan of the whole Alien series really, each director is pretty awesome Ridley scott, James Cameron, then David Fincher (fight club) and finally Jean pierre Juenet (Amelie) The last two went a bit astray but compared to where the Terminator went in part 3 I'm not complaining smile.gif I'm hoping terminator 4 pulls it back into somewhere worthy of the two Cameron films, I watched them again a few weeks back, its amazing how well it holds up, everything except the stop motion terminator at the end.

Ive been meaning to check out deadspace I heard it was good.

i'm a huge Alien fan too (the whole quadrilogy), but yeah i find it a bit hard to connect the David Fincher of Benjamin Button with the horrid-CGI mess that was Aliens3! that's the one where she lands up in a prison with the horribly fake CGI-Alien...
but yes, compared to Terminator 3, Aliens3 and Resurrection were absolute gems!
Terminator 4, i have my hopes no doubt...Christian Bale will do a great job, but I'm not so sure of the direction...McG?
I would love to see a Terminator 4 with Cameron at the helm, and Christian Bale as well!
maybe they'll recast Avatar with Christian Bale as Josh/Jake Sully....tongue.gif i have hopes

I didn't think T3 was that bad, I thought it was pretty good first time round though I've probably enjoyed it less the few times I've watched it since. I'm not gonna bother getting my hopes up over a movie any more, I always seem to end up dissapointed. I had high hopes for Max Payne, a good game with a good story should surely turn into a good movie. But no, they cocked that up. Hopefully Avatar turns out better.

Yeah, Its obviously pretty impressive stuff but with all the hype around how this would be the first cg movie to truly cross the uncanny valley I'm not sure. Its probably on par with a blizzard, blur or square enix cut scene in terms of that. 450 million, the pinnacle of the visual effect industry vs District 9's 30 million and i think district 9 has nailed the realism thing by orders of magnitude. Speaking of district 9, if you haven't seen it already its Frakkin amazing. just be prepared for some pretty heavy violence and cruelty type stuff. I felt pretty shell shocked after it. Anyone else seen it yet?

Damn that animation looks good, but based off previous trailers I thought Avatar was going to be based off the anime, that clip didn't look anything like Avatar the last air bender tongue.gif.

I haven't seen district 9 yet I keep hearing better and better things about it so hard to chose what movie I want to see now with "the goods" and "inglorious bastards" all out at the same time.
