What about just giving him a tutorial that's similar to what he would need? I know of a car tutorial that teaches you how to place guild lines correctly. After that, it would just be a matter of importing the cad file, which really doesn't need much explanation. Unless he needs help learning how to read blueprints... but that's a different ballgame.

Go to this page and download part1 and part2. It's a bit confusing, make sure it's not 01Materialassignments and 02Vraysetup, but part1 and part2. You'll have to register as well, but I found these two vids to be pretty helpful for blueprint setup. It's for cars, but the info should be relevant to any sort of blueprints.
