I'm not sure how far I want to take this one, but so far I have the crest done. This was interesting... I drew out each layer with splines and extruded them.
Rick
I didn't think about that, but bevel would be nice instead of extrude. I'll try it. I've got plenty more detailing to do and experimenting with different textures, but this is direction I am heading.
Rick
I seriously doubt it...lol... Here are a couple more renders.... I believe I'm leaning toward doing a treasure chamber scene... It will take a while to accomplish.

I have tried using HDRI, but for some reason, It won't let me drag a material for the Material Editor to the VRay Environment slot. Any suggestions
Rick
try click the vray slot, and choose HDRI from there. Then drag that into the material editor. See if you can do it that way. Please support us and post a [Link to www.digitalartsfront.com] on your website.
The shield isn't... just box modeled it, but the emblems are just splines and extruding. I was just experimenting. My son was wanting to make a suit of armor and shield so I was just testing some ideas to teach him.

Matt, it did work. For some reason in Max 2009 you can not drag your material to the VRay environment box, but you can click the environment box, select HDRI and then drag it to the material editor as an instant and edit it there.
So hey, there you go.. Thanks.. I learned something today... woot
Rick
Were you trying to drag the whole material? you should be able to drag in both directions but it would need to be a map not the material. In the material editor if you click the "get material" button and under new choose a map rather than a material
then you just have a map to edit and you should be able to instance it anywhere you like.
