This is a little personal project I've been working on, I wanted to design a high end office/studio for my portfolio, and this is the progress so far, do you think I should put some cables on the Macs to give it a little more realism?
C & C warmly welcomed and as always thanks guys!

impressed.gif Amazing! impressed.gif

If I saw this in Better Homes and Gardens or on some interior design site, I probably wouldn't even consider it to be 3D. Very nice design and render.

The only thing I can point out is that the rug under the computer chair looks a bit thick.

yeah it does look a little thick doesnt it, I will perhaps trim it down a level thanks! Do you reckon I should put cables in the macs? I kinda like it clean with no wires...

I think it looks fine without the wires, I wouldn't have noticed if you had not said something about them. If you decide to put wires, I'd make them nice and neatly tied together.

hey AHZ, lights used to simulate the light from the windows are simple vray lights, 6 in total 4 from the side and two from the front. Edit: I'll put up a screenshot its easier to see.

Nice render! very clean but still very realistic. I'd say if you had an office as neat and tidy as this you would have definitely bought yourself a wireless keyboard and mouse. great piece for the portfolio for sure.

Ah I see, perhaps If I had designed the ROOM myself, you would have been happier? although probably not. Thank you for letting me use YOUR (?) model of a room, you've really improved over the past few days....[Link to johnbeyer.deviantart.com]

Can I borrow YOUR (yes Johns) model of the kitchen?

I thought I recognised it. I thought you must have posted an earlier version somewhere.

Same here Steve.

At this point I have to ask, did you do any of the models and lighting?
Sorry but, knowing you didn't model the room makes the awesome meter go way down.

I have to agree. If this is a portfolio piece its important to breakdown what you did on the image. I mean the lighting is really nice and the materials too. If all the other models are yours they are nice aswell. but it is misleading if the models are from a library you should make that clear from the start.

Huh?, I didn't mean it like that, actually. I was just pleasantly suprised to see another version of Archinteriors. Awww,, please don't take it as any offense, I really wasn't planning on that, really. I didn't mean it like that.

My kitchen model sucks ass. and the room isn't mine, it's Archinteriors smile.gif

P.S I DO like your version of it. more modern. nice moddeling.

Hmmm. I'm going to have to disagree with the majority here and this is why:

The Project is a visualisation, designers have to put together complex scenes together in limited time, many visualisers utilise models to save time, scenes are prebuilt and lighting can be modified to suit the environment, the fact of the matter is the scene above is succesfull and acheives what it set out. Does it matter that models or materials or lights were created from scratch? No, the only thing that is important is that the visualisation is on time and the client is happy.

It doesnt really matter HOW you get to that result, its getting it that counts. I never once said that I modelled it, why would I have to declare myself to anyone here? I simply said I was designing a project for my personal portfolio, I didnt claim anything of the contents and you liked what you saw. Why would I need to declare what I did to anyone? John posted his image of an empty scene which is identical to the one I based the image above on, he did it solely to spite me and from jealousy. I found it amusing he would bother to point it out, as I even sent the image to Archinteriors under 'personal experiment' which is what it is.

I posted it this work on the Archinteriors website gallery, and everyone criticised it further much to my disgust, the 3D snobs whom I despise grunting and moaning oh thats just a rearranged scene. The fact of the matter is the image will be included in my portfolio as my work. It is a visualisers portfolio, not a texture artist or modellers portfolio, however yes I can model anything required of me. Im sick and tired of jealous people whom question others with their own insecurities, however I very much appreciate the positive people who have commented on all of my work. As of today I resign from Digital Arts Front, It is pointless me showing my work here as It will just be seen as oh thats the guy who used the archinteriors model/scene, what a crime! and to think that millions of visualisers use the scenes and models everyday, wow perhaps they should all be fired............

Goodluck with your 3D my Friends, I will excel with mine. Something quite truthful I noticed made me smile are my last words taken from Altopais signature,

............The secret of creativity is knowing how to hide your sources.

there's a lot of truth in your post, probably a great deal of arch viz people, if not all of them use a prebuilded models even rooms if they fit the scene they are trying to create.
Time and deadlines are things that are needed to respect and in my believe there's nothing bad about it. But you should have noted in your post that modeling is not your work.
I'm still standing by my previous post, i think that the render is great, lighting is great and modeling is great, so what ever you didn't or did do on that scene it looks great.

Wow, that was quite a rant there. Your point is taken and understood. I do think you may have overreacted, to say the least.

If your asking for critique on your arrangement of existing models and lighting that's fine, I don't have a problem with that.
However I don't think it's fair to allow anyone here to assume that it's all your work.

I believe what prompted Einstein to say "The secret of creativity is knowing how to hide your sources", was his realization that completely original thought is impossible, that our "creativity" is a result of everything we have ever perceived. Everything comes from somewhere. The source of creativity is inspiration.

Even taking out the prebuilt stuff it's still an awesome render. There are so many awesome models in there, each one could be a topic on it's own. Maybe in future we just need to make sure we mention what we have and haven't made to aviod confusion.

AVV resigned? because johnbeyer said "it looks like mine"? and that, too, he wasn't really all that serious by the look of the post...
why such a vehement response toward the entire 3d community in general, and a resignation from this forum, where everybody's helpful and will criticize your work in a positive way....even if somebody's render is downright pathetic (like most of mine are) they will still not say "man that's the crummiest piece of s*** i've seen all year" instead they'll say "you might need to work a little on the lighting" or something like that....
however i do agree that if you want criticism on a project, you will have to state beforehand what part of the scene is your own creation, and what part is borrowed from elsewhere....
nobody here considers it a crime to borrow assets from places for visualizations... deadlines are a fact of life, and nobody can keep remaking sofas and lamps for each client etc.... thats obvious.... but just mention that you borrowed it....

Sorry for the huge convience i started here. I apologize, alright?. The last thing i wanted to do is start this rampage about an Archinterior model.
After all , these models are royal and pre-bought. you have to buy them first so, i assume he bought them like i did.

anyway, the modelling he did is not bad at all and i wasn't trying to make him look like a fool or whatever he thought.

So, sorry.

Hey John, I've over-reacted to the whole thing and I apologise, I shouldn't have taken things so seriously, I guess I must be having a bad week, I'm not usually so wound up, I think I need to chill out a bit and I am sorry if I offended you or anyone with my comments. I will stick around as this forum is a rare gem, a great bunch of people united by what they love doing, 3D!
