Very tidy! I'll take another picture of mine once I move my desk back into the office I built in the garage. My kids drive me nuts during the summer while playing the xbox360 or arcade while I'm trying to work...lol

really bad habit, and highly addictive, everyone who is thinking on starting to smoke or is skmoking for a small period of time, stop while you have the time, it only gets harder grin.gif i better stop so this topic doesn't turn into a "hello my name is Altopais and i'm a smoker" haha grin.gifgrin.gifgrin.gifgrin.gif

After smoking for about five years I dropped it, ..uh, well, like a bad habit.
Then, after being smoke free for two years I started again. Yep, I'm an idiot.

It was relatively easy the first time, not so easy the times I've tried since.
When you're trying to quit it seems like everybody just does their best to piss you off and everything that can go wrong, goes wrong.

I have at least stopped smoking in my house, that way I don't smoke as much.

I smoke cigars now and then, but that never really goes into your lungs. So I'm not sure if the addictiveness is found in them like in cigarettes.

-Altopais

i know exactly what you mean, i tried, and manage not to smoke for about 2 months, everything would be fine and i would not smoke today if only nobody pissed me off.
that's great if you don't smoke at home. When i'm at home, specialy at my computer i smoke twice a much as i would do if i'm outside, don't know why, i just light them up one after the other...

I used to do the same thing. If your like me you smoke more because you are too busy doing whatever your doing to actually smoke and get that much needed nicotine. They just burn up and ashes fall in your keyboard and everywhere else.

yeah exactly, i get to exited, and when i do i just smoke smoke and smoke, my desk is a mess usually, that's a cleaned version on the picture, usually there's ashes on the keyboard, mouse, everywhare but not in the ashtray.
This is how it looks after couple of hours work.

I don't know, I've never seen one that bad, but I've seen some that were so bad I thought someone was playing a practical joke, and they still worked.

I used to work for a computer repair service in Nashville, I did on-site repair. These rich people would pay $75 to $150 service call + $75 per hour. I don't know how many times I've walked into fine well kept homes and find a key board covered in cat hair, ashes and what looked like chocolate milk. I would always replace them regardless of them not being the cause of the problem, because I didn't want to touch them more than I had to.

Our set ups are fairly comparable. very similar indeed smile.gif. Although I have been intending on getting some proper speakers and a nice widescreen monitor for a while, your foldback speakers look like they could shake loose a filling. At the moment I have to do most of my sound work with a pair of studio headphones. I havent done all that much recording lately but I have plans to buy a bass guitar soon and try to write a few songs smile.gif. I can never seem to get a good flow using the Keyboard for basslines. the guitars just work better together for me.

-bfmd
Member

Yeah they are quite similar. Yeah my speakers are monsters, they took a huge bite out of my wallet if you catch my drift wink.gif I am in desperate need of a bass guitar too - I guess that's just one more thing we can compare tongue.gif Keyboards suck as basslines, I've tried and now I've resorted to tuning down my guitar strings and setting a fair amount of bass on the amp to act as a bass guitar. Not the same but it works.

It's not much but it's home! Don't mind the rotten chair it's about to be replaced, and the flat-screen is dead. I actually had to zoom in on my latest DIY project on my old Canon EOS which I learned two lessons from.

1. Don't pick something apart if you don't know what you're doing or at least have a plan (Well..I probably didn't learn this since i keep doing it over and over..my curious nature I guess)

2. Don't put your finger on a circuitboard in an open camera that is either a) on b) on with fully charged flash.

If you'd only knew how much juice it takes to fire off a flash...and getting into your index finger instead frown.gif

+Steve Martin

Ouch! I wouldn't have thought it would do much but I guess when you think about it it makes sense that you'd need a bit of juice to get it going. Did you do much damage?

Haha.. I already made a sculpture from my old slaughtered computer. Glued all sorts of curcuitry to the head of a mannequin with the optic lens from the CD-ROM for one eye and the disc-sled in the mouth. Looked really funny. I threw it away when I moved tho. Here's the beast! Or what traded my beast for...
This is my only computer now. It has a 15GB SSD so it can take a pretty hard hit while defragging, or doing what ever. Everywhere I go some stranger tells me how cute it is and that they want one. I only run ubuntu 9.10 on it. People keep asking if it's windows 7...

Good to know, since I haven't ever done it to this system.

+VarnishedOtter

Yeah defrag optimizes HDD's because of the physical movement the read head has to travel to find all the bits of the file. Since there's no movement in an SSD, there's no slowdown if the files are fragmented. I think it may even decrease the life of the drive, as you're using many reads/write cycles per second to do the defrag.

@ATG, correct me if I'm wrong here.

If I were taking photos on the road, I would want a small light weight netbook as well. This thing has been great for school.
I even found a US law that allows me to photograph my textbook and keep it on my hard drive; the netbook weighs far less than the book and is twice as small.
