I dont know that is a good idea to start this new thread but i have to do for myself and for all members here. I see some names of softwares and plugins for 3ds max but i dont know for what i can use them and should we have it in our workflow.

*Edit by +Varnished:* I added a few and organized into categories. We should keep a nice list of all the programs we use in our projects.

Plants/Trees/Environments
---
TreeStorm -- Tree and foliage generator, with wind simulation
SpeedTree -- Better than TreeStorm, but more expensive
IvyGenerator -- Generates nice looking Ivy
Dreamscape -- Environment generator
Vue 6 Xtreme -- General environment generator/renderer

Fluid/Dynamics
---
RealFlow -- Fluid and dynamics simulator
OceanWaves -- Nice water/wave model generator

Renderers
---
Vray -- Fast photoreal renderer
Brazil -- High quality photoreal renderer
Maxwell -- Ultra realistic light renderer

Texture/UVW Unwrapping
---
Uvlayout -- Unwrapping tool
BodyPaint 3D -- Viewport texture painting, UV editing
DeepUV -- UV Texturing software
CrazyBump -- Displacement/normal/occlusion/spec mapping tool

General
---
PolyBoost -- Texture painting, UVW Editing, selection and modeling enhancements
HairTrix--It is a plugin and do hair and fur effect.

Video Editing

Adobe Premier - High end PC editor
Final Cut Pro - High end Mac editor
Sony Vegas - Cheaper than the other 2 but still very good (so I've heard)

3. Brazil is a renderer. It's pretty good, I would recommend it.
4. Maxwell is also a renderer, I think its used for ultra realistic lighting solutions. It's very slow but very accurate.

Not totally sure of the others. I've never heard of crazy bump but I can only assume it's something for bump maps.

This thread is a good idea, is there a way we can keep it organised and easy to read somehow? I mean if people are going to keep adding things it's going to get a bit long winded and messy.

If we just keep editing the top post and keep it updated it should be fine.

I can see good things coming from this thread.
Applying Bold to the categories titles would be good.
Also, more detailed descriptions would be good.
Maybe download links with no bull crap labels, such as FREE/TRIAL/BUY

I can think of a couple of plugins that fall under the FREE category...Rather than add them myself and really make a mess I'll let someone else handle it, Matt wink.gif, here are the suggestions
Madcar
Particle Combust
Object Combust
Blur fire...
There's a bunch of stuff from Blur Studios I can add. And add a description to others.

It would be neat to have a few of the FREE things for max too!! grin.gif Also a voting on which each of us uses/has. Might be a good way to link to a specific user that has/uses the specific plug-in/render/etc..
