I do multiple things in Photography. You can see some Portraits I shot on my school with some simple lights and a black wall.
Some pictures i shot for a car company near my town and some pictures for my upcoming movie OHM, based on chernobyl.
The guy with long hair is not me haha., It's a classmate who really likes to help. and some classmates in there aswell
Oh and a picture of my dad working on a site Lol , well , my dad's hand hehehe. and a picture of my dog. took awhile to make it. Shutterspeed way long lol. long live laying on floors holding your breath!
Hello fellow D80 user! Freaking LOVE the D80! I cant seem to get enough of mine.
Your shots are looking great!
The first one is alot of fun, really digging the life and expression in the faces you have captured. I would have maybe white balanced it diferently because currently the shot is looking a bit yellow, you can go back into photoshop and use curves to even that out or if you shot raw use a raw editor to change the tone from a yellowish one to one thats more natural for the skin tones. If your using curves try adding a bit of blue... sometimes thatdoesnt entirely do the job so have a play with all the colours to see what happens. Same goes for a few of your portraits. Also I recon this shot would look even better if you got in there with a clone tool and took out that edge of backdrop that you can see there and some of the crinkles in the paper on the floor. I might even go so far as taking out that light thats hitting the backdrop behind the top guy. Aside from that... really fun shot. I dig it.
The fourth one is a really cool looking fashion sort of shot you would see in a magazine, great job! Your lighting is spot on for the style of shot. Next time maybe just work on the posing, hes looking a bit bunched up in the shoulders. Maybe get him sitting up a tad straighter so that his back shoulder isnt looking so awkward and high. Also the backdrop to the left has some strange stains on it. Im not sure if thats happened in post production or what but try using the healing tool or clone to even it out a bit. Great job, well done!
I have never once photographed a car in my life, So ill back away from making any comments on those incase my comments are well out of place!
The one with OHM on it, I'm a tad not sure about the lighting... maybe im wrong, what do other people think? It seems to be a bit flat and harsh.
The one with the camera, once again a bit yellow toned. Chuck some blue into it with curves in photoshop.
The one with the guitar is interesting, what ideas were you going for as far as mood and such for that one?
I dig the black and white landscape. Love the person off in the distance and the hazy look.
The second to last one with the white backdrop taken from above, I like it... I want to like it alot, but a massive part of me feels like his legs have just dissapeared. I sort of want to see his feet. once again check your tones, your a tad yellow.
The last one... is that an on camera flash or a speedlight? If it was an on camera flash, avoid it. If it was a speedlight try bouncing it off something else in the room. Ie: point it at a wall or the ceiling so that the light bounces off onto the subject. Plain flash is good for happy snapping, but portraits you can end up with a bit of a generic "been done before" tired look.
I have to agree with what gee has said, she is spot on with her comments, which is sad becaue it hasnt left me with alot to say
I really like the compoisiton on the 3rd one, It looks like you have put it through a filter or something? Because they way you have drained the colour from the image I like, gives it a real spooky, lonley post apoc feel to it (which is obviously what you wanted, being chernobyl). I would also be tempted to photoshop out the tree branch on the left top corner, I find it detracts from the image a bit.
with the car images, I can see what your trying to do...but it is very hard taking pictures of cars in a show room environment (so many reflections and lighting problems). The only one of the three I think turned out well was the Kia one, it is a well composed shot. I would clean up some of the background in photoshop (like the 2 corners of something along the hood of the car and the light in the ceiling) and I think your colour balance may be a little off?? It is hard to tell in that image as your not sure what colour the car is...and the ceiling is no help in that mattter
The white car shot you obbviously have your focus on the light, but the way the photo crops the other parts of the car leaves it feeling awkward and your not sure exactly what you are meant to be looking at, I would have probably gone a landscape shot with that image. Also because the car is white, you have lost some fo the detail just above the tire which has really flattened out the image around that part, you needed to work on the exposure a little better.
and the 3rd car shot, a good idea, but just way to much stuff in the background to really pull off this shot. Honestly my eye is more attracted to the bright yellow "sorry" sign and all that clutter in the background. It all detracts from all those nice little details and reflections you are trying to capture in the headlights. Also white balance needs some work and you should whipe down the surfaces of the car b4 you take pictures of them, you can see all the dust and stuff on it.
anywa that is enough for now, You did really well and have some really nice pictures in that lot (the black and white one has the most wonderful mood).
So take more photos!!! work on your light balance! work on trying to get a really clean backdrop if you are going to use one (and make sure that if you are going to use one you frame you image so that it all fits i.e the first image)! get some more practice with lighting and flashes and have some fun
wooties, Thanks both of you for your really good constructive critism, I really adore when people do that. It's very helpfull.
Thank you Geen and Acaroid, I will try and follow your tips. Yes, I know about the odd colour balances now and then, But i really did it on purpose. I really like to make pictures with a huge colour faint on it. But, I really need to work on some other stuff as you say
Thanks alot and I fully understand what you guys mean.
Well seen as the everything that can be said has, I will just say... AWESOME!Please support us and post a [Link to www.digitalartsfront.com] on your website.
