I think that in celebration of the new and improved board we should all take part in a teapot challenge. The rules of the challenge are simple.

1: Don't spend too much time on it. We're not looking for a masterpiece here, just the interesting use of a teapot.

2: The teapot must be the centrepiece of the image or at least very prominent. Don't model a large breasted girl standing in front of a teapot. Save that for the "large breasted girl standing in front of a teapot" challenge. (Coming Soon)

3: This challenge is not limited to CG. You may want to sketch or take a photo of a teapot in an interesting\compromising position.

Addition: You can make as many entries as you like.

Other than that it's up to you. Who's with me?

Edit by +VarnishedOtter:

If you're not using max, and need the teapot primitive you can download it here:

Ah, the old man in bowler hat approach. There are a whole bunch of variations of this painting (Son of Man by René Magritte - hooray for wiki!) on the internet, but I think this is the best by far. Better than the oroginal even. Leading the challenge so far...

My first entry in the teapot challenge:

After bagging our board creators for not being able to create a spinning teapot animation, I thought I'd give it a try and show them how it was done. Turns out it's not as easy as it looks, as you can see in my result here:

ftp://3dfiles%40gunerook.com:3dfiles@onlime.com.au/stevemartin/Teapot_spin.avi
(1.07mb)

Sorry about the ftp, it's the only way I could get it to work.

It still scares me though.

That certainly is the best teapot animation I have ever seen, as well... Very nice touch at the end. Wasn't expecting it and v. funny smile.gif It really is `the spinning teapot of death'.

The only think I can pick with it is the edges around the 3d parts, they aren't blended, so you get a weird outline. I will write a tute on PS comping, its real easy.

Hey, I spent years approaching bethesda to make a game that would enable me to photochop a teapot into a character's hand so it would look like he was making me some Nirnroot tea. And don't even get me started on the exploding teapot.

Here ya go. lol. when I'm more awake I'll do much better.. 10 min to put together. 45second render time.. I realize you may see some faulty shadowing. lol. Oh well.
I could have easily perfected it, but to follow rules.. I didn't want to take long putting this together.

I will def. try to make some waves in realflow and get this running.... it'll take some time to render though.. I mean... being that HRI(I'll use FinalRender) and the particles... $H** I don't need particles.. I just need a RealWave.. hmmm (goes to drawing board...)
