I've seen several posts titled with "noob question....", but this must be the noobest ever ^^
Since I'm a beginner like no others, I'm starting from "Still Life"....but I didnt like to make a short work of my first ever 3D orange.
A bump map, a better tiling, squeezed as it should, some mapped displacing, a little noise and.....a nice mesh smooth! I even sketched the bump and displace maps with my PC tablet =)
The orange is great, it seems almost real (immodest).....oh, well, I should make some mods for the "wetness" of the peel, but it's ok, for a beginner.
The problem is: if I turn off the vertex selection in the edit mesh modifier I used as base for the displacement (as the apple tutorial teaches me to), the displacement passes to the other face of the sphere too =p
Otherwise, if I let the vertex selection on, the orange is perfect....what's wrong? =o
I'd like to post the two versions of the rendered orange, but I dont know how =p

Use a mesh select modifier on top of your edit mesh modifier and select the vertices with that. And don't forget to post an image in the 3d WIP or final section.
