Well I just bought the orange box on steam today I played a little bit of HL2 and Portal but then my comp died and I never got my hands on another copy. So I'm just wondering for those who have played it did I make the right decision and what would you rate the orange box?

Please no spoilers.

I would rate it 11 out of 10. Everything on there is awesome and the value is excellent. I don't get to play TF2 as much as I would like these days, but I certainly got my money's worth from that alone. Then add on Ep2 and Portal and all the other stuff and you can't go wrong.

Audio commentary is worth playing through, some good insights into the engineering of the game.

I didn't care for hl2. It was fun the first time and the style is cool. But I hated the characters and wish I could have changed sides to kill those hippies. TF was cool in the 90's but now i have games that do the first person shooter thing better.

Portal can be bought separately and you can try to best your time and find new ways to beat each puzzle. This can cause you to go insane, and makes the game worth it. I'd just buy portal.

Yea I think ill be on the side of the "hippys" kinda got a thing for freeing mankind from slavery hahah.

What games do the mulitplayer fps thing better?

The bad guys were the coolest thing about HL2. Screw the lame honkytonk hillbilly boat and the buggy made from shopping carts. I want to wall off hippies and ship them in trains and say things like, "pick it up, or I'll hit you with my stick".

The original Ghost Recon.
Swat 4 (awesome multilayer modes)
Hitmat: Agent 47
Unreal Tournament 3
Portal
Descent 2
Gta: SA

Yea I played swat 4 multi player for a week it was cool, but I can think of a lot better. I have never played any of the unreal games since the first tournament I loved that game untill I found quake 3.

All I'll say is, anyone can kill the enemy. It takes guts and brains to arrest them, especially in a deathmatch situation.

I bought most of the orange box in pieces, the only thing I dont have is TF2. But since my ping is too high to play online theres no real point.

dude wow in aus never gives you a ping over 300, you can still play online games. my ping in wow is like 400 on average it really does not effect game play that much. in TF2 it is 30 so 250 there might cause a few issues.

You need a ping below 100 for most FPS games. I can play GRID online and dont have any other online games.

I was thinking of trying out WOW. I have never played an online multiplayer RPG.
what type of things can you do in the game? is it all pretty much battling enemies or are there other types of quests and stuff?.

Ok well essentially you are given a series of quests in each place and you complete them for gear, money and xp. There are also instances which are a lot more fun, you form a group and run them together, you are the only people in the instanced dungeon and you fight through the various areas together in the hopes of getting some killer gear. There is also pvp battleground's pvp arena and pvp world.

They are the modes of play, aside from that you have the auction house which is like the ebay of wow, off course you use wow gold not really money. Guilds that you can join and people will help you and you can make friends, Events such as xmas hallowen mid summer as well as fishing tournaments and a fair that travels around the world.

Oh and there is the professions system which lets you become a blacksmith or an enchanter etc. You can then sell this stuff for gold of use it on your character. Very cool.

Also I have to say something about the art direction because to be honest even tho it is dated it is still a beautiful game, the environments are stunning and the world is so vast with tones of detail.

Plus the two expansion packs ad a ton of new things. It really is worth playing.

The only downsides to wow are as follows:

1. Money, you have to pay

2.) People, I find that the enjoyment of the game is Dependant on finding good people to play with, if your mates play as well then you should have no problem, but there is nothing worse than being in a mmo grinding away on your own.

3.) Wrath of the lich king, I found and so did a lot of people I played with that the new death knight class messed things up a bit, as a result every man and his dog had a death knight and people would only run instances with you if you had one. This has probably been fixed now because they were far to powerfull and it was messing up the game. So really as soon as the next patch comes out this won't be a problem.

Anyways it is one of the best games I have ever played and I think that everyone should at least give it a shot. Oh but a word of warning do not get a trail account. they are so limited now because of spammers that you will get to see about a 10th of the game .. and by a 10th i mean you can't talk to people.

You can tell I like this game can't you haha. Might be my longest post ever.

i was on ragnaros, stoped playing, it took to much time. I use to have a 70lvl human holy paladin with tier 5 / tier 6 gear, that was a year and half ago.
Even now i still get that urge to play it, it's amazing game, but it can be annoying if you play with idiots, and believe me, there's to much of them in wow grin.gif
Lich king sounds like tbc when it came out, it really pissed me off, when all hard work to get my preq done for ssc and tk, then hyjal and when i entered black temple for the first time, man that was ecstacy, ill never forget that feeling, and then patch came and another expansion and everything goes all over again.
Eventually i found my gaming time to repeat to much, farm, arena and raid, every day, wel raids, that i couldn't get enough, that feeling that you play with 25 people, great grin.gif
.
..and he looks at his shelf, shall i install it, get my updates and play again? haha nope grin.gif

be careful if you do try it, you may get addicted and lose your social life. they should really put a warning on the box like cigarettes.
and it's a story that might bore you, but you don't have to listen, because I always knew it was going to be like that.

Haha yea my life was a bit shit when I started playing it and I got sucked in, however when my life improved I just played it like any other game.

They do have a warning in game on the loading screen "Bring your friends to azeroth but remember to go outside with them too" haha.

I set up a high speed network in my house for streaming HD movies from a server cheaply. We can have 5 computers and the xbox playing the same movie file with no dropped frames. Even good wifi isn't that good.
