yeah i hear ya. I somehow managed to skip working retail (authough... with only an arts degree under my belt i couldnt even land a job at maccas without some retail expreiance... mean ti was jobless for about a year) and somehow by random luck and some sort of fluke got a job digital retouching at a local studio. Its not entirely galmourous, but its work in my field, so thats not so bad.

Unfortunately... lowry retouchers get treated like theit uni educations dont mean a craploads compared to pure self taught industy experiance, so I havent had the nicest experiances with it. Luckaly this job isnt going so bad. Im really hoping it works for a while

yes, I am not really at liberty to complain. I make websites all day. It gets very grinding after a while, but it could be a lot worse.

Work sucks.

I use to work in retail stocking (night shift oh god don't get me started on hours) then Cashiering both god awful jobs were your treated like trash by everyone.

Now I work in the restaurant business as a Host (Zzzzzz...) / ToGo specialist (ton of work, crap pay, no tips alot of the time) / Busser (yuck, alot of work, low pay) / and soon to be Waiter ( I hear treated like trash by almost everyone)

Just want a job in my desired career field is that so much to ask for? really why do you have to spend a ton of money and work (in your spare time) for years to be well beyond an expert to START making money in this line of work. Really have tons of things I would like to accomplish before I grow old and with each passing day it's like all those dreams are slipping away to ultimately accomplish one goal. Hopefully that rants just me being too anxious and pessimistic rather then being a realist, hard to tell in this stage of my life.

To put it simply..
"Work is sucking the life out of my time lately...

Whos got the same deal?"
Me, Work with the combined forces of School and people who have no concept or consideration for basic morality.

Yea I kinda gave up on my dreams of working in a creative field. However now i'm a web developer and that in turn is starting to open up opportunities for me. But yea I know how it feels.

How is the web developing job? like yea said earlier it seems like it could get tedious but it seems like an alright job, I had some interest in that kind of work as well seems like a good job while trying to get in a more creative field. Too bad my school's VC program only had one class on web design introducing you to HTML and I never spent the time to master the process.

I learned how to build a site but I would always have this problem were everything in my window would stay the same size no matter how I adjusted the window size. Hard to explain guess it's like if I made my site window smaller all my hyperlinks/tabs/or img's would all collapse on each other instead of staying in place. and I never fully grasped the concept of clients and hosting the sites, do you just make them in Dreamweaver or something then sell the code or do you have to bring it online for them as well? Then is it better to work for a design company (don't even know where I would look for that) or to just do freelance when it comes to webdesign?

I work as a freelancer. I used to work for a company doing web based software, for example we worked on a voip system and a customer management system. I write all my code by hand not using a wysiwyg. I make the website and either give them the code or I just host it myself on my own server for them. There are two kinds of "web people" web designers and web developers. Web designers make websites, Web developers make software that is web based. I do a bit of both.

As for your window re size issue. You use percentages for your width and height on tables and div's if you want it to collapse and you use fixed values in pixels if you want to keep it static. So for example <table width="50%"></table> vs <table width="500"></table> (500 pixels)

Furniture removals isn't too bad, the company I work for are pretty good and the customers are genreally pretty good too. I don't like pianos, steep driveways and 2 story houses though. Plus it's not great when its 35 degrees plus or raining.

It's happened before - many times. A few months ago we had a driveway so steep that we had to call in extra help (2 men and a ute) so we could get the piano up it. Why aren't people happy on the flat?

Sweet mercifull... that's one bad day at work. I get angsty if I have to move a few files off the computer keyboard haha.

Do you charge more for steep driveways and pianos? Hell I would.

Well it's an hourly rate so they get charged extra because it takes about twice as long to walk up a steep driveway as it does a flat one. And if we have to bring out a ute and extra men, that's even more.

..moving a piano makes me remember a sketch of Laurel & Hardy - you know it too? grin.gif

As it appears it's called 'The Music Box' and was shot in 1932. It can be viewed here: [Link to :]
