its an ok list I guess. some of its pretty questionable, I think Ryu should be much higher but you can't go past link as the number one character.

What about Sonic the hedgehog or Cloud from FF7. Personally I think Mario is the most significant, everyones heard of him, gamer and non gamer alike. Or Lara croft I mean womb raider was a fairly pivotal game in my opinion. It was the first time I ever felt a truly 3d experience in a game.

Although not an avid fan, I agree with Tyson that I was suprised Sonic did not make the list. I would imagine that he would be one of the most recognisable characters within the realm of computer games.

I also agree that Lara Croft or Duke Nukem or Commander Keen might be candidates for such a list. Was the character from the first few GTAs the same guy? Not sure if he would get hero points in any case, but the series was fairly influential.

Not sure if he was the same guy, but as far as characters go I wouldn't say he was that standout. The games definately were though.

sonic used to be good, but has really slipped in recent years. His games have yet to make a decent transition into 3d and the new 2d games have about 7 million extra characters added to them that they're barely sonic any more. But i guess he should be there just for those years when he was in his prime.
