Hey... don't suppose anyone has or knows of a plugin for Max 7 or 9 that will show the Tri Strips on a Mesh?! Would be a pretty handy tool, especially if it updates real time as you change the tri's!!

I've only ever used tri strips for loading terrains in opengl.

Hmmm, yeah!! I have an external tool for viewing TriStrips, but having something in the viewport updating realtime would soooo rock!!! grin.gif

Okay, lets try this uploading an image business grin.gif
Yeah!!! Okay, basically each 'colour group' is considered one tri strip!!!

EDIT: So far my search has turned up that each engine stripifies using a different method... if there is a standard, I'm still looking. This would make it hard to write a tool for max because each engine may do something different!

My tool is based off of our game engine... Time to chat to the programmer boys!! grin.gif

I have no idea what you two are on about with your tri strips but that's a great low poly model.

Its an optimization for realtime rendering.

Normally when you render tris you go through each face and specify its verts, but because faces share verts you end up repeating a lot of data.

Tri strips cuts down the amount of verts you need to specify as it makes you specify them in an order so that two verts are always shared form the previous face and you only have to specify one to make the new face.

Its a bit confusing without a diagram.

Yeah, I am just thinking ahead here, coz we get some crazy frame rate boosts when the tri stripping is nicely done!!! Its the last thing I do though, even after texturing so not in a crazy rush for it right now!!!

@Gustave d'Pre - Yeah, basically the more Tri Strips you have, the quicker you can push that data thru to the Hardware Renderer!!! (GPU) Thanks for the compliment!! wink.gif Its still a little high on the poly count front, so a few more optimizations and we'll be there!!
