I found a model of a DVD case (freeware) and Im using it to make some mockup DVD concepts Im doing. using photoshop extended I should be able to swap the texture out for the DVD layout. however the dvd didnt have a texture. so I opened it in 3d studio and added a texture. then back to photoshop. adding it only partially worked. now I can swap textures but it doesnt not wrap around the case. instead it puts the texture on the front, then squishes it on the spine, then puts it mirrored on the back.

Im terrible with 3d studio and have read many tutorials and tried UVmapping and all sorts of things just to get my DVD label to wrap. I just cant do it. any help would be fantastic!

I got the DVD case from this page. [Link to www.3dxtra.cygad.net]

all replies greatly appreciated. Id like to get these mockups done soon but I really need help!

Hi, you could try applying 3 textures to the case model and then create theah anel individually in photoshop and swap them in.

Yeah the Mutli-Sub Object material MAY work, but I was looking at the "paper insert" and it is rendering with front/back for both sides(of the paper), not sure how this would map out in the UVW stuff(I'm a n00b on that stuff). Nice DVD case though!! I am thinking around 3 Multi-Sub materials should be fine, front/side/back, but then you'd need to clip them in Photoshop to make them look right. Assign the front "paper" polygons to a Material ID of 1, assign the "side/spine" polygons to a Material ID of 2, and assign the "back" polygons to a Material ID of 3, then edit the Multi-Sub material to materials of 3, then assign each image to each slot of the materials. That "should" do it, but it's kind of a pain to do all that there has GOT to be an easier way.

Guess this is a bit of an older post, but hopefully you can still use it. grin.gif

Okie so I tested this but the side/spine doesn't seem to work, but the front and back images seem to work alright, might need some tweaking in the stretching stuff.
