So who's excited about L.A Noire? I nearly worked on this game 3 years ago but the pay wasnt high and I didnt know Maya at the time so I took a different job. I'm kind of kicking myself now though as it looks like it will probably be awesome. I was just thinking as I read the first lines of this "hands on" from gamepro that its kind of ironic that a highly adult mature game is being made here in Australia where we STILL dont have an R rating. what will it take huh? I couldnt help but feel slightly pissed when gamespot made fun of Australia on April fools day with their video about a censored version of mortal combat for down-under, but it really is quite pathetic when you think about the kind of intense stuff we are seeing in games lately. I mean, violence is everywhere in games sure but when its intense realistic stuff depicting a woman being bashed to death and having to examine her mutilated corpse. it seems to me that stuff is aimed squarely at an adult market.
I can't wait to get my teeth into LA Noire but I'm hoping it at least retains a decent amount of combat and driving mechanics not only the interrogation stuff.

I've seen a bit about this game and it looks pretty interesting, but as I don't think it's coming out on PC I'll probably give it a miss, which is a bit of a shame. The facial animation looks pretty amazing, which is probably pretty important for a game like this, but facial animation alone won't make a good game. We probably need more games like this that are aimed at an adult market to try and shake the games industry's "games are for kids" tag. Hopefully games like this will help with the R classification.

Yeah, thats what I'm hoping. I think that when ignorant people see or hear what kinds of things happen in say GTA 4 ie: killing prostitutes after you sleep with them etc. they automatically shut off saying that it probably shouldnt even be for adults. but if there are more games that are simply aimed at adults for other reasons. like very mature story lines with high level themes, stuff that kids probably arent even interested in playing in the first place. surely that will have an effect on things. The trouble is that these people that oppose the R18+ rating probably dont even play the games. they are the same people that will bag a book or film without seeing it just because they heard what was in it.

I heard about a radio show where they were bagging a book for its content and then they were asked had they actually read the whole thing, to which they were embarrassed because they had just read the chapter that everyone was talking about. later they discussed GTA4, without reservation bagging the crap out of it and none of them saw the irony that not one of them had played it for even a minute. I would wager that if you actually play GTA4 and go through the story you would see that there is alot more to it than just the violence.

Yeah its a pity you dont have a 360 but I'd say with the Witcher 2 coming out that same month you wont have much time to spare anyway.

Haha I wish I'll be playing the Witcher 2 when it comes out. smile.gif

Below is my steam list. I've highlighted the games that I intend to finish at some stage. This is just a list of the games I own, there are plenty more that I don't own yet that I'd like to play (waiting for them to come down in price). I also haven't included the multiplayer games I like to play occasionally. And I have to find time to play all these games between working full time and being a parent. Plus I recently bought 4 Allan Mckay VFX DVDs which I'm trying to get through as well. So I won't be playing the Witcher 2 when it first comes out, but it's definately on my to do list.

Man thats alot of games to get through. Yeah, I can't really help myself if theres a game that really looks impressive that I track for months or sometimes years in development I just have to get it within a week of its release. Frankly its not the worst cash drain, I probably spend more on take away coffee every week than I do on games in a month.

Yeh, I usually keep an eye on new games but I've found a lot of the time they tend not to live up to expetations. I'd been following Homefront for a while hoping it might break the mould of current FPS' but it received mixed reviews, Test Drive Unlimited 2 was the same, looked pretty good in development but was a let down on release. I'm really hoping Skyrim lives up to expectations but that's a while off and Portal 2 is out today I think which is one I'll probably get straight away if reviews are good.
