Hello. smile.gif
It's my first post here, so please be gentle. smile.gif
I've encountered a major problem with the Hairtrix plugin (Hairfx + Ornatrix). I'm working with 3ds Max 9 SP2, Vray 1.5 RC5 and Hairtrix 1.7.
It all goes smooth when I'm using the Ox Hair Raytrace Fast, the hair turns out nicely and smooth, but I have no hair reflections.
To create reflections, I assume I must use the Ox Hair Raytrace Accurate. But when I do so, during the render Max shuts down and puts out an unidentified error. This happens only when I use a light that affects the hair and with OX HR Accurate. I tried different settings, different shadow maps, nothing seems to work. :-/
If anyone could provide some help I'd be very grateful. smile.gif

Someone else here might, but I don't know Hairtrix.
My question is, why are you using a third party plugin when the stock modifier shag/fur (renamed to Hair and fur) pluggin has been used in so many professional grade productions? I really don't know, even after reading around and looking at videos. Thanks.

I have only used ornatrix a few times and I have to say when it came time to render it was very painful. I ended up using ornatrix to model the hair using all the spline comb features (the main reason to use ornatrix) and then using that as a base for the default hair and fur plug in. I got some pretty good results. Tyson may be able to answer you question if he is around. Welcome to the site.

Is there a reason why the default hair and fur plug in will not work for you? Or do you just have more experience with ornatrix?

Well, first of all, I've got some really nasty experience with 3dsm's stock Hair&Fur, a lot of crashes, performance problems and the fact that Hair&Fur isn't compatible with Vray frame buffer. The default Hair&Fur won't show up in reflections either, so I think Ornatrix is my only option. frown.gif Also, isn't it a bit curious why a 3rd party plugin would fail in this way? wink.gif Thanks for the fast reply! smile.gif
