I see someone's been taking advantage of the Steam sales I had a go of that Alien Swarm last night, it's pretty cool, especially considering it's free but I'm not sure how long the enjoyment will last. It may get old quickly unless they keep adding new maps pretty regularly.[Link to www.3dprevis.com]
Nah these are just piles of games ive been meaning to play and couldnt because uni was taking up my time, being holidays ive been thrashing them out!
Alien swarm was good! I have been playing with 3-4 people I know which is even better! it has a nice blend of various game types and has some fairly hectic moments!
It is ok, I wouldn't talk to me either...
Yeh I'd say it is, though your experience will depend on who you play with. I played through the campaign last night with 2 friends and it definately helps if you're all on Skype or something talking tactics and strategies. It's a real team game, it's very important to stick together and help each other out. There's no great depth to the story or characters or anything like that but it's quite and addictive shooter. If you've got a few gig spare at the end of your billing cycle I'd say definately go for it.[Link to www.3dprevis.com]
I've been playing a lot of Fallout 3 lately. I got the GOTY edition when it was cheap on steam have been hitting it pretty hard for a month or so. I recently finished the main quest thinking I'd do that and then start the DLC. Unfortunately the Operation Anchorage expansion doesn't continue on from after the end of the main game so I had to go back to an old save, which was slightly annoying. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the others enable you to play on after the end of Fallout 3 and raise your level cap etc.
I started Theif: Deadly Shadows recenty, it's an oldy but I like the change of pace it offers with the focus on stealth rather than killing everything in sight.
I bought a Mass Effect novel the other day which suposedly tells the backstory before Mass Effect 1. So I'll probably start reading that soon and start playing the game when I've finished the book.
Nice, yes there is an expansion pack that allows you to continue from the end. Did you feel like they ran out of money to finish the end of the game? It just ends so suddenly and in a way that means no more game play... I wasn't happy on my first play through.
Yeh I went through a phase when I was trying to get work in the industry where I didn't game at all. Consequently I have a large backlog of games to play sometime in the near future. Here's a list of what I've bought off steam that I want to get through:
Batman Arkham Asylum
Dirt (started this one)
Dirt II
Fallout 3 DLC
Flatout Ultimate Carnage
GTAIV
Grid
Machinarium (just started this one)
Mass Effect
Saints Row 2
Secret of Monkey Island SE
Tales of Monkey Island (Finished Ch 1, part way through 2)
Thief: Deadly Shadows (Just started)
The Witcher
Plus there're other games I want to get but haven't been the right price as yet. I'm gonna be busy for a while.[Link to www.3dprevis.com]
Batman is awesome
Fallout is worth playing
GTAIV is awesome
Grid (you have to be into cars)
Machinarium is the best game ever...
Mass Effect is very very good.
Monkey Island is the best game ever made
The Witcher I still need to play. Please support us and post a [Link to www.digitalartsfront.com] on your website.
Ok, check theif off the list. I quite enjoyed it. Good story, and gameplay was pretty good too. I think the enemy NPCs are a bit short sighted but as a theif that made my job a lot easier. I think I'll play Mass Effect next.[Link to www.3dprevis.com]
23.8 actually Still good value considering I spent less than $10 on it. Good game, even though the last boss fight almost ruined it for me. (Maybe not, but it was still annoying). I'm definately keen to play the next one. Just have to wait for a Steam special.[Link to www.3dprevis.com]
What did you think of fable 2? I was majorly unimpressed after looking forward to it for ages. utterly dissapointing. Whenever I see peter moneneux in interviews these days I get angry. am I being too harsh?
Yeah you are being to harsh. I loved it, I thought it did a hell of a lot of things right. What it did wrong was making it so that if I was good I wanted to kill all my followers for being so annoying all the time. I felt punished for making the right choices. Overall I thought it was a great game. It would have been nice to have armour tho... Please support us and post a [Link to www.digitalartsfront.com] on your website.
The reasons I didnt like it were that
a) the story didnt really grab me, and was more irritating than anything else.
b) there was no penalty for dying so it just felt like you had god mode on which made the combat and leveling seem irrelevant.
c) the world felt constricted running down narrow paths just failed to give the illusion of a srawling world that other games seem to have avoided despite a similar structure.
d) interacting with npcs, having wives and kids and all that just seems utterly crap, I just didnt connect with it at all, give me voice acting and scripted stuff like mass effect, dragon age and oblivion any day.
but it could also have been my state of mind at the time. I really liked fable 1 for some reason but now with all the talk of fable 3 trickling in I'm just not excited at all. Not that I wont try it out of course.
I liked the story and the way in which it was told. It was like a fairy taleish kind of thing that worked for the most part. I never actually died... which in its self is a bit of a problem lol. Regarding the open world, I disagree especially if you compare it to fable 1 which was one massive corridor.
The family thing was a chore I will give you that. However a very interesting thing happened to me which I have never experienced in another game. I went to kill some dude in a cave and when I came out my wife had followed me only to be slain by a bunch of bandits who ambushed me. That was a pretty cool moment in terms of AI.
In terms of preferring scripted games that is fine, but this game was not scripted. You can't have heavy scripting in an open world environment, the level of work required to achieve that would be way outside the budget of any normal game. Just look at mmo's they have fantastic open worlds, but almost no real sense of story progression. Please support us and post a [Link to www.digitalartsfront.com] on your website.
To each is own I guess, I would have played the game to completion if the characters had had personalities I think. it was too much about procedurally generated interaction and not enough about the personalities and characters.
Kickin it old school. I was having a browse on that abandonia website the other day. So many fond memories from my youth. Makes me feel old. Is that where you get your old games?[Link to www.3dprevis.com]
Those of you that have a ps3, you need to buy Frontmission 3 from PSN!!! just so you can add it to your "now playing" list!
It is ok, I wouldn't talk to me either...
