What renderer is most suitable for 3ds max 2008, and where to get it?
I just got the vray demo, but i didn't tested it yet. Can I actually make something with demo or it's neccessary to have a full version?

thanks!

The best renderer I have used is Vray.

And you can use the demo, it just adds a watermark to the renders. So try it out and if you like it find somewhere to get it from.

Yeh, I think vray is the best. Brazil is also quite good.

Yeah, I see what you mean about watermarks, LOL. I didn't quite tested it completly yet, since I have to play with it for some time, to understand all the things, or maybe watch a few tutorials, but 'till now, I think it's pretty good, and also, I've seen some tuts, and it looks like a great renderer. I think I'm gonna get this one.

I asked you guys, so that I save some time trying all the renderers and just hear some oppinions from more experienced users.

Thanks guys.

The only thing I don't really get is:

I have a model of a head that I'm working on, and when I render it with vray, it's not as smooth as it should be.

The head is TurboSmoothed on 2, and when I render it, it looks like its smoothed on 1. If i set turbosmooth on 3, it still looks like it's on 1. The same thing happens when I render it with a classic 3dsmax renderer, when i just klick render.

Why's that, if anyone knows?

Check that your material is not set on "Faceted".

I checked that, and it's not set to faceted. I even changed the material, and made a new one, just simple material, and it's again the same. Somehow, only the head is the problem, I added this armor, and it looks as it should. Every time i render it, it turns out the same. I really don't get it. See yourself: (it's not a really bug diference, but it annoys me)

the first one is not rendered, it's just a screenshot so that you guys can see how it should be, and the second is rendered with no lights, then I added some simple lights, and again, the same.

What happens if you increase the turbosmooth further?

it has no effect. When rendered, it allways looks like this frown.gif

I've never seen this before. I can't think what it would be. Unless there's something in the render setting you could tweak, I'm not sure what though.

I'm totally confused too. Well, if I work something out, I'll let you know. I tryed to set something on the renderer too, but the thing that is telling me that it's not about the renderer is that the armor is as smooth as it should be, so, I see no reason for head not to be... anyway, I hope I will find the problem, and solve it.

Hey guys, I solved it. Now it finally looks smooth. I cant belive that I couldn't see it before: the problem was that I accidently checked "Render Iters" in the turbosmooth modifier, at the very begining of the modeling, and that was why it was unsmooth only when I render it. Now it's solvedwink.gif
