Well, actually just a tyre at this stage. The wheel will come soon. Been working on it for a few days, nothing overly difficult, but it is a lot of small detail there so the poly count is pretty high. Also, to get a decent GI render, the irradience map settings have to be pretty high. [Link to www.3dprevis.com]
No candy, it's pure... vegetable. Does that make sense to anyone? What I mean is it is all modelled, no bump or displacement.[Link to www.3dprevis.com]
Here's another update, this time with the completed wheel. I"m pretty happy with how it's turned out but as you can see, I can't quite get rid of the jagged edges on the highlights. The two left images were rendered in around 15 minutes each with default settings.
I've tried several different methods of anti-aliasing but none of them can get rid of it, even on excesively high settings. (see picture on right- took about 9 hours to render and is still unfinished and crappy)
I've cranked the subdivs on the reflections right up and that doesn't help either. PLEASE HELP! is there something really obvious I'm forgetting? [Link to www.3dprevis.com]
now the image won't work. Bugger. Is there a size limit for the dimesions of an image, because the one that's not working is quite wide.[Link to www.3dprevis.com]
Never mind, found the solution myself. Had to turn on sub pixel mapping and clamp the output. Makes it a bit let contrasty, but a lot smoother. Also renders fairly quickly as well. [Link to www.3dprevis.com]
dude this is freaking awesome! Next featured artist me thinks? Stick it in your portfolio! Please support us and post a [Link to www.digitalartsfront.com] on your website.

WTF!?! Dude, you're trying to palm this masterpiece off as your own work when the label on the side clearly states `Made in Japan'. What gives?
... or did you think I was too stupid to know what a yoogoogoly was?
...but seriously. That's F***ing great! Love it... One of your best yet. I'd go so far as to say it's `wheely wheely good'!
... or did you think I was too stupid to know what a yoogoogoly was?
Thanks. I WHEELY appreciate your sentiments. I've worked quite hard on this one and it has been pretty TYREsome at times. I just hope the wheel will turn for me and I can get a job out of it. That would be MAGnificent.[Link to www.3dprevis.com]
Jeez! You were just WAITING for me to say a pun so you could unleash with that uber-sigh-worthy barrage of pundom, weren't you? Top effort!
... or did you think I was too stupid to know what a yoogoogoly was?
Just don't work too hard... I would hate to see you suffering from BURNOUT. I don't want to go on a TYREade, but you should WHEELY try not to put too much PRESSURE on yourself otherwise you'll end up feeling FLAT and TYREd, losing your GRIP on reality.
I'd go on but I can't make a pun out of `steel-belt-radial', and any pun based on `20-inch' can only be crude... I'd probably couple it with something about `handling in the wet'.
... or did you think I was too stupid to know what a yoogoogoly was?
ok you win. I should be PUNished for even thinking I could go head to head with you in a Pun-off. I'll TREAD a bit more carefully from now on. BTW, the I've just uploaded the final image into the finished 3d area. Feel free to comment but try not to OVER INFLATE my ego.[Link to www.3dprevis.com]
