You cant update xp to windows 7 (i dont think), you'll have to get the full version i think, i know it is gay, but you know what microsoft is like $$$$.

Well the reason to upgrade is so that you can keep using the OS after march next year. Plus updates and support etc.

I know the updates thing is a good thing, but what i meant was whats the advantages to getting the upgrade instead of shelling out for the full version.

(upgrade vs full version)

Advantages of upgrade:
cost, it is cheaper

disadvantages:
If you want to ever format, you need to install the old OS first before you install the update

You cant upgrade from straight xp to win 7
You will need to do a xp-vista upgrade then a vista-win7 upgrade (and screw doing that every format)

You can only get an upgrade from vista to Win7

I know from xp-vista there was alot of people talking about problem when upgrading, but they got patches later on
Im sure the same will happen with vista-win7 but patches will fix it eventually.

basically
If you ahve a copy of legit verison fo vista, yeah upgrade is fine if you can be bothed with the vista install every format
but for an XP machine you might want to go for the full version, it may cost a little more, but I would think alot less problems involved...

AAANNNNDDDD if you end up getting a new pc later means you can run both xp and win7

Yeah it is, mind you I took advantage of the $50 student deal though, because if you can do it, so worth it!

edit: because I it was the home prem version of cista anyways so it doesnt really matter... It is better than paying $200 to get the upgrade to ulti
