Hello all,

I want to buy a games console. At this point I am heavily leaning towards the PS3 for several reasons but the main one being I can play 99% of the Xbox titles on my PC. The PS3 has a lot of exclusive titles that I would love to try as well as many cross platform games.

I would like to hear from people who have experience with both consoles and if you could provide me with some pro's and con's it would be very helpful. At this point the only thing making me lean towards Xbox is Alan Wake, which is an Xbox only title.

Thanks smile.gif

I'd say go for the 360 if you want to use their online service, xbox live - no lag or queues and its fairly well supported in comparison with the psn network which though is free is pretty crap most of the time. my boyfriend has all the consoles and pc and out of all of them we use the ps3 and pc's the most - specially since you can play your movies on your pc through your ps3 in a seperate room (if you have wireless) which makes it really easy to stream tv shows and such. i am avoiding all the obvious points of difference, but from a practical point of view i think the ps3 is best value and has the most extra features to integrate it in the home as both a multimedia and gaming device smile.gif (do i sound like a salesperson yet lol)

I am confused. I want to play games some of them will have multilayer components. Are you saying that there is no point getting a PS3 if I want to play online?

BlazeBlue is on PS3. I don't think it's on xbox. It's the only reason I'd consider getting a PS3.

Nah blazblue is on both

What is stupid though is you can get a free arcade stick for the ps3 version, all you get for the 360 is face plates for your controller stare.gif talk about dodge.
It is ok, I wouldn't talk to me either...

Well the thing is, both of them are good and bad.

I have a 360 and my brother has a ps3. The only reason I am a 360 owner is because, well, my brother has a ps3 LOL

It all depends what you want to get from it.

You can stream movies from your computer with an xbox as well as a ps3 (according to jasikk, i haven't tried it with a ps3). But a PS3 does have a bluray.

The ps3 can easily upgrade your hardrive in it for cheap (just need a laptop drive) but a 360 you have to pay through the butt for a new hardrive.

Xbox live is piles better than the ps3s online service and the xboxlive arcade has piles and piles of awesome games, the ps3 doesn't even come close to touching it in that respects. The online servers are better for gaming multiplayer on 360, only thing is, you pay $70 a year for it, I don't as well I have a PC and it owns both the 360 and ps3 for online gaming XD.gif tongue.gif You can still play games online on the PS3, just it is better on 360 (as you would expect as you have to pay for it)

Ps3 does have more exclusives, your right about most of the xbox ones you can get on PC. I do like having the choice to get a game on console or PC though, so i can buy the game I think would suit the platform.

PS3 has more "party" games, that is why my brother has one, all his titles are singstar, buzz, guitarhero, rock band etc. You do have some on 360, but there just seems to be alot more on ps3.

by the sounds of it you want a ps3, cause allan wake is a dud game really, and not worth buying a whole console for tongue.gif

I would say xbox arcade is my biggest draw card to the xbox. I love it, so many awesome games you can get that are not on the ps3 (original perfect dark, marvel vs capcom 2, chime, speedball2, piles of original xbox titles etc etc etc), so yeah you might want to browse the downloadable games before you decide.

edit: Ive been a playstation user since the ps1, but I have to say the xbox controller for me is better, more comfortable... It know it is crazy, but when I go back to my brothers ps3, it feels clunky and wrong... mind you the ps3 does have lighter controllers and you don't have to pay extra for plug and play controllers., BUT the cords for the 360 plug and play is alot longer than the ps3, but you can easily buy and usb extender cord or something.

Oh and for some reason the ps3 updates take SO DAMN LONG, the 360 updates seem to be no where near as long stare.gif
It is ok, I wouldn't talk to me either...

You make a good point about the Xbox live arcade thing. I am very into indie and casual games and I would probably end up picking up quite a few titles. Also I am interested in developing games for that market.

How do you know Alan wake is bad? it isn't even out yet?

I finally splurged on a ps3 when they dropped in price and after the first few months its come down to this.
I buy all my games for 360 because I prefer the controller and I buy all the must have ps3 exclusives and my gaming time is about 50/50 between the two
as a result. I played through uncharted 1 and 2, killzone 2 and recently heavy rain but I got assasins creed 2 and mass effect 2 on the xbox. I would have said final fantasy 13 on the ps3 was a major plus because it came on one disc but as the game turned out to be utter utter crap It doesnt really hold much weight in the decision. I say get the console that has the most games you really really want to play both in its existing library and in its up coming one.

I find the xbox controller a bit strange to be honest. I have been using one tonight to play Batman Arkham Asylum on the PC which is a fantastic game by the way. As for the the games you play on the Xbox I have played them on the PC, which again makes me feel that there is no real need for the Xbox other than the supposed better online experience.

@jamie - personally i find the ps3 online good enough for what i need to do - the online service is free and it works well enough but there are a lot of dropouts and lag. just saying that if you want to do a lot of multiplayer that microsoft supports the service a lot better because it is paid.
