I would recommend re-rendering this in a the perspective view port, the orthographic view kills perspective.

will do - as Is aid, I am working on this ATM, trying to render the chess pieces with an woodedn effect (will re-post / add to the Gllery when its done)

also, is there a default view to render from? sometimes when I render from the "perspective window" if I have canged the angle, it often renders in the same angle - can I set or save a default "generic 3rd person" view? (as with many of my posts so far, sorry if this is a really n00by question - I'm just trying to learn)

Yea you can use cameras in max, that will ensure that the perspective is always real world.

Comment - This is my first attemot at 3DS Max 9.0. I followed the 1st section of the modelling tutorial, as well as a small section within the textures tutorial. This is a work in rpogress, with the final outcome hopefully being a fully textured chess board (am working on it now, Thanks to the people who have added to my question post) and will update my gallery - using it as a progression measurement, so I can see how I (hopefully) improve my 3DS skills. (comments and messages are very much encouraged) NB - Since screating / rendering this image, I have altered the Knight, The nose is less "dented" and the neck-line is now more defined
