Just as the last time, I like the way you light out objects. It's always fun to play around with lighting and simply go on with that smile.gif

Good job on the model, though I'd highen up the part where you actually sit on just a bit up..For the rest, I really like the looks of it.

Good job!

Good work. It's a good model and you've lit it well and the materials are good as well.

Thanks guys - I'm working on the background now, to make it look even more like the photo, as opposed to just the bench model - will update shortly smile.gif
My only concern is that I wont be able to get the stone wall and grass looking anywhere as nice frown.gif

You don't have to do what's in the image, maybe just do what you think you can make look good.

Did you spline model this? It turned out real well.

Maybe if you're working from reference, take some liberty and put it in a different scene, one that you can texture a bit better.

Yeah, I used a spline, then drew a box and made it align to spline to create the thicker edged of the bench. I then cloned the original spline and copied it like 35 times to make the vertical "strips" of the bench. With these in place, I connected the top edge, and did the same (copied the original line, and ran it along the 1st curved spline, to make a "mesh" for the actual bench piece. The rest (ie the arm bars / legs) were just 2 cylinders which I curved round.

I'm happy overall, but now am making my entry for the current competition, so prob wont make a whole "photo-real" scene just yet grin.gif

You know you can set splines to renderable right? You just draw the spline and then tick the box and say how thick it is. You can also choose between circular or rectangular.

ah, didnt know you could set it to be rectangular too - hence the box to follow spline (which i did have some problems with, it was trying to follow the spline backwards - long story, but ended up with some very funny results). I used the cylinder thing though, (as I've been doing tutorials though at the moment, I've been just following them like the bible, if I'm honest I dont feel confident enough to deviate just yet, lol)

Comment - Classed as "finished" as I'm just messing about with making objects from pictures and learning lots of new things from tutorials (bentateonline.com). I suppose if I was going to go back to this, I'd add in some scenery to better match the photo (see link here: http://img188.imageshack.us/img188/9356/benchreferenceimage.jpg ) and would maybe mess about with the reflective properties of the bench texture, so that you saw a little more than the 3 VRay Lights I'd used - However, as this is mainly about the actual model (still aiming towards that 1st Uni project in early November) I can dabble / go back to this if I ever need to. Overall I'm happy with the outcome - 3DS Max / VRay, total time spent = 1-2 hours (messing about with the lights took the most part, model took about 55-60 mins) As ever, feedback very much appreciated :)
